पिट्सबर्ग के साउथ में पेंसिल्वेनिया के मोनेसेन में जन्मे आर्टिस लियोन आइवी जूनियर, कूलियो कॉम्पटन, कैलिफोर्निया चले गए. उन्होंने नॉर्थ कैलिफोर्निया में कुछ समय बिताया, जहां उनकी मां ने उन्हें भेजा क्योंकि उन्हें लगा कि शहर बहुत खतरनाक है. उन्होंने इंटरव्यूज में बताया था कि उन्होंने 15 साल की उम्र में रैप करना शुरू कर दिया था और 18 साल की उम्र में उन्हें पता था कि वो अपनी लाइफ के साथ क्या करना चाहते हैं.
